What Is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?

Remote Online Notarization — commonly called RON — allows a Florida notary public to notarize documents for signers located anywhere via a secure, live video session. Instead of appearing in person at a notary's office, you connect through a secure RON platform, verify your identity, and sign your documents electronically while the notary witnesses the signing in real time.

Florida state law authorizes licensed notaries public to perform RON after completing an application and training requirements. Melissa K. Garner is an active Florida notary public and certified Remote Online Notary, commissioned by the State of Florida and fully authorized to perform online notarizations.

Documents notarized online through a Florida RON are legally valid — the notarial act carries the same legal weight as an in-person notarization. The electronic notarial certificate, digital seal, and tamper-evident technology ensure the document's integrity.

Why Choose Online Notarization?

Flexible Scheduling

Schedule appointments at your convenience — often outside traditional business hours. Fit notarization into your schedule without disrupting your day.

Accessible to Everyone

RON makes notary services available to clients with mobility challenges, those in rural or remote areas, and anyone who finds in-person appointments difficult to arrange.

Security & Technology

RON is not just convenient — it is built on a security framework that exceeds what is possible in many traditional in-person settings. Every session is protected at multiple levels.

Identity Verification

Multi-factor authentication, government ID scan, and knowledge-based questions verify the signer's identity before the session begins.

End-to-End Encryption

All communication — documents, video, and personal data — is encrypted and protected from unauthorized access.

Tamper-Evident Seals

Digital signatures and tamper-evident technology are applied to the notarized document, making any post-notarization alteration detectable.

Complete Audit Trail

Every step is recorded — identities, actions, timestamps — providing a comprehensive, verifiable record of the transaction.

Live Video Session

Melissa is present throughout the entire signing, just as she would be in person — just via secure video rather than in the same room.

Tech Assistance Available

Not tech-savvy? Melissa provides technology assistance for e-signings. We'll walk you through the platform step-by-step before and during the session.

How Online Notarization Works

The process is straightforward. Here's what to expect from first contact to completed document.

  • Contact us to schedule your RON session Call, text, or send a message with your document type and a preferred time. We'll confirm availability and send you the information you need to prepare.
  • Prepare your document and valid photo ID Have your government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport) ready for the identity verification step. Your document will be provided digitally through the platform — no printing required in most cases.
  • Complete identity verification on the platform At the start of your session, you'll verify your identity through multi-factor authentication — including a government ID scan and knowledge-based questions. This takes just a few minutes.
  • Sign your document live with Melissa Once identity is verified, Melissa conducts the notarization via live video. You'll sign electronically while she witnesses the signing in real time — just as you would in person.
  • Receive your notarized document Your electronically notarized document — complete with digital seal and tamper-evident certificate — is delivered digitally. If you also need an apostille, we can handle that next step as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Remote Online Notarization legal in Florida?

Yes. Florida law authorizes commissioned Florida notaries to perform Remote Online Notarizations after completing required training and registration. Documents notarized online by a certified Florida RON carry the same legal validity as those notarized in person. Melissa is an active, commissioned Florida notary with full RON certification.

What is a Remote Online Notary (RON) in Florida?

A Florida Remote Online Notary (RON) is a commissioned Florida notary public who has completed additional state-required training and registration to perform notarizations via secure live video session. Florida enacted its RON law in 2019, making Florida one of the first states to authorize online notarization statewide. The notary must be located in Florida, but the signer may be anywhere.

Do I need to be in Florida to use an online notary?

For notarization purposes, the notary must be located in Florida — but the signer may be located anywhere in the United States or, in many cases, internationally. Contact us to confirm whether your location and document type qualify for our RON service.

What do I need for an online notary session?

You'll need a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone), a stable internet connection, and a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license or passport). Your document will be provided digitally through the platform. Technology assistance is available if you need help setting up.

Can an online-notarized document be used for apostille?

Yes — in most cases. The Florida Department of State can apostille documents notarized by a Florida notary public, including those notarized via RON, as long as the notarial certificate meets all required standards. We confirm this on a document-by-document basis before proceeding, since destination country requirements may also play a role.

How long does an online notary session take?

Most sessions are completed in 15–30 minutes, depending on the number of documents and signers. The identity verification process takes a few minutes at the start of the session, followed by the live signing with the notary. Complex or multi-document signings may take longer.

What if I'm not comfortable with technology?

Melissa provides technology assistance for electronic signings — if you need help getting set up, accessing the platform, or navigating the process, support is available. Just let us know in advance and we'll walk you through every step before and during the session.

Can you notarize a document and then apostille it?

Yes — this is a common workflow we handle regularly. We notarize your document (in person or via RON), then prepare and submit the complete apostille request to the Florida Department of State. One provider, both steps, no coordination gaps.
